Havana/The Cuban artist and activist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara presents touch the skyan exhibition at the Foreign & Domestic gallery in New York that opens with a performance and marks a new stage in his artistic career after his release from prison and his arrival in the United States.
The promotional image shows a group of religious figures gathered inside a cell, a composition that evokes confinement, spirituality and resistance. The exhibition is part of an artistic practice in which Otero Alcántara uses performance, installation, sculpture and religious and national symbols to reflect on power, freedom and individual experience.
Co-founder of the San Isidro Movement, Otero Alcántara was arrested during the protests on July 11, 2021 and sentenced to five years in prison. In July 2026 he was released from prison and arrived in Miami, where he has resumed his artistic activity. Amnesty International recognized him as a prisoner of conscience and has denounced the conditions of his imprisonment.
The inauguration will feature a performance from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The exhibition will remain open until mid-December, although normal visiting hours and entry conditions cannot be confirmed.
