On the evening of Thursday, October 29, the Moroccan occupation authorities expelled two international observers, one holding dual American and Norwegian nationalities and the other Norwegian nationality, from the city of Laayoune, the capital of occupied Western Sahara.
According to what was reported by the Sahrawi Press Agency, this concerns the two students and human rights activists, Marian Bogue-Stavick and Andre Christopher Peletest, who arrived in the occupied city of Laayoune to examine the human rights situation and listen to live testimonies from Sahrawi citizens and activists about their reality under the burden of occupation.
The two observers held a meeting at the residence of Sahrawi human rights defender and former political prisoner Sidi Mohamed Dadache, in the presence of human rights activists and family members of Sahrawi political detainees within the “Gdeim Izik” group, who are sentenced to harsh prison sentences of up to life.
On their way back to the hotel, around five in the evening, members of the Moroccan occupation forces in civilian clothes intercepted them and informed them that they were “unwanted” in the region, before they were forced to take a taxi and forcibly taken towards the Moroccan city of Agadir.
Sahrawi and international reports document the prevention or expulsion of more than 330 foreign observers, including parliamentarians, media professionals, lawyers, and international human rights activists belonging to different segments and nationalities, from entering the occupied Sahrawi territories since 2014 until today.
