Impossible to trace the person responsible due to lack of cameras. APAS indignation
SAN MARINO – The criminal case relating to the abandonment of two kittens, found on 9 August 2026 inside a plastic bag thrown into a rubbish bin in front of the State Hospital, has been closed. In fact, it was not possible to trace the perpetrator of the gesture, also due to the absence of cameras in the area.
The news was given by the San Marino Animal Protection Association (APAS), which expressed indignation and bitterness at the outcome of the affair. One of the two puppies died despite the attempts of the volunteers to save them, who had also looked for a cat available to welcome them and breastfeed them together with their babies. The conditions of the kitten, too fragile and exhausted, did not allow him to survive.
The complaint presented by the association was closed because the investigations did not allow the person responsible to be identified. APAS also raises questions about the absence of video surveillance systems in a busy area like the one in front of the hospital.
“The absence of control tools has not made it possible to identify whoever carried out this gesture and risks leaving an act of cruelty towards completely defenseless creatures without consequences,” underlines the association.
According to APAS, animal protection requires, in addition to regulations, effective controls and adequate investigative tools, so that those responsible for mistreatment and abandonment can be identified and prosecuted.
The association therefore calls for greater attention towards crimes against animals and the adoption of concrete measures to prevent similar episodes from remaining without perpetrators.
