KUJALLEQ SAYS STOP
Siumut has not been involved in deciding to extend the closing time for alcohol sales in Kujalleq Municipality, according to the deputy mayor, who is demanding an extraordinary meeting of the municipal council.
Thursday could Sermitsiaq said that the mayor of the municipality of Kujalleq, Malene Vahl Rasmussen (D), will keep alcohol sales in the municipality closed for at least a month. Today, the alcohol ban has been in effect for three weeks, and the mayor wants more data on the results of the closure before a reopening can begin.
The announcement is now facing harsh criticism from the mayor’s coalition partners, Siumut. 1st Deputy Mayor Anders Olsen thus emphasizes in a press release that Siumut did not contribute to the decision:
– Siumut’s members of the municipal council in the Municipality of Kujalleq have not been involved in making this decision, nor have they been informed of the decision on the minimum duration of the closure.
– Therefore Siumut’s municipal council members in the Municipality of Kujalleq hereby demand an explanation from the mayor, writes Anders Olsen.
He adds that Siumut does not accept that the mayor makes decisions on his own without prior information.
– We therefore demand that the mayor involves his political background when major and important decisions have to be made.
The deputy mayor also demands that an extraordinary meeting of the municipal council in the Municipality of Kujalleq be called as soon as possible.
Inuit Ataqatigiit is in opposition in the municipal council, and critical voices are also heard from here.
Group chairman Pipaluk Jakobsen Larsen writes in a press release that there is no clear strategy and that Inuit Ataqatigiit wants a controlled reopening after the temporary closure.
– It could be, for example, that alcoholic beverages such as beer were reopened first. We still believe that this should be discussed, among other things with regard to business, suggests Pipaluk Jakobsen Larsen.
