Restrictions that hinder access to media and digital platforms are still present in Venezuela. On its 41st day of monitoring, the organization Espacio Público counted 40 blocked websites46 who recovered access and another 3 who registered moderate anomalies.
The report, prepared with data from the Open Observatory of Network Interferences (OONI), detected interferences in information pages, services for carrying out financial operations and tools intended to protect the privacy of users on the Internet.
Among the media that present anomaly rates greater than 60%, a threshold that Public Space used to identify sustained blockages, they are found Bandagewith 75.2%; VPItvwith 72.4%; The Patillawith 69.6%; Infobaewith 65.1%; EVTV, with 61.6%, and Armando.infowith 60.9%.
The restrictions also affect AirTM, a platform used for transfers and financial operations. During testing, AirTM.io recorded anomaly rate of 64.9%, while AirTM.com had 64.1%. Another web address associated with the service registered an indicator of 63.4%.
According to Espacio Público, these interferences can hinder access from Venezuela to services that allow money to be mobilized and payments to be made in dollars.
The tools of virtual private networks (VPN), used to protect connections and circumvent access restrictions, are also among the affected services. Browsec presented an anomaly rate of 82.6%, while Hola VPN registered 75%.
The monitoring also found irregularities in other domains that did not present the reference percentage used to classify a sustained blockage. Among them are Tor Bridges, with 43.9%; Vente Venezuela, with 17.6%, and the ProtonVPN API, with 10.2%.
Espacio Público specified that these percentages reflect anomalies detected through OONI tests from internet providers. Indicators alone do not confirm that a page is blocked: to establish that condition, the organization considers the persistence of failures and the results of additional checks.
El Nacional continues to be affected by access restrictions
Among other media outlets that still face restrictions is the newspaper The Nationalwhose website has not regained access uniformly across all internet providers. The VE monitoring without Filter updated as of October 6 recorded blocks for domains associated with the medium.
The situation persists despite announcements in September regarding the lifting of restrictions on web pages. In its most recent balance, VE sin Filtro counted 143 blocked domains, including 24 active information sites, and warned that the unblocking had been partial.
