Miami/The Cuban artist Ariel Orozco (Sancti Spíritus, 1979) presents Syllabica personal proposal that combines performance and installation at the Trashroom Gallery, within the Residence at Desur program. The activity is open to the public and constitutes a new foray by the creator into the Miami art circuit.
With a practice that moves between action, painting, photography, video and installation, Orozco has developed a conceptual work that is based on everyday gestures, common objects and seemingly insignificant situations. His interventions often alter the usual perception of these elements to reveal unexpected relationships between people, spaces and materials.
Graduated from the Higher Institute of Art of Havana in 2005, the artist has exhibited in galleries and museums in different countries. His work is part of collections such as the Jumex and the Museum of Modern Art of Mexico, as well as the Zabludowicz collection.
Among his best-known projects is I pass through the city and the city passes through me (2005), an action carried out in Mexico City during which he exchanged clothing with strangers, exploring social relationships and economic differences through a simple gesture.
His recent exhibition Angles of Disbeliefpresented at the Dimensions Variable space in Miami, delved into issues related to perception, memory, and the fragility of everyday experiences.
With SyllabicOrozco returns to the performative format, one of the central territories of his career, in a presentation that invites the public to approach his particular way of transforming ordinary actions and objects into artistic experiences.
