Vancouver’s incumbent mayor on his leadership style
Vancouver incumbent Mayor Ken Sim reflects on his campaign, saying he has tried to gain support from voters across the city.
Ken Sim, the incumbent Vancouver mayor who’s seeking re-election with his ABC Vancouver slate, spoke about his leadership as he waits for results to be counted tonight.
Speaking from the ABC election night watch party at the downtown Wall Centre, Sim addressed questions over what some opponents — like Rebecca Bligh, who was kicked out of the ABC caucus — called a “top-down” leadership style in his four years in office.
He said councillors actually voted together a majority of the time over his four-year term.
“Obviously, we agree on a lot of things, and we can work together,” he said.
“And then on some of the issues that we don’t agree on, that’s actually just politics … sometimes you get agreement, sometimes you don’t.”
In the ballroom, the tables are filling up with a diverse crowd. Incumbent councillors are walking around, mixing with attendees.
Sim left the room after interviews. He’s worried he’ll lose his voice by the end of the night, so he wants to try to save it.
