Havana/The 27th edition of the French Film Festival in Cuba will bring together 17 films that offer a tour of the contemporary cinematography of the European country, with proposals that cover drama, comedy, animation and stories aimed at family audiences. The event, organized with the support of the French Embassy, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry and the Cuban Cinematheque, will extend its screenings beyond Havana to also reach other cities on the Island.
The inauguration will be marked by the presentation of The children of the resistancea film by Christophe Barratier that follows three minors involved in clandestine operations against the Nazi occupation during World War II. The French director, known internationally for The choir boysthus returns to a story in which childhood faces the decisions and contradictions of the adult world.
The programming will give special importance to younger viewers, with four animated productions. Among the titles announced are also Jim’s Roman, Maya, donne-moi un titre and The Sacred Grotteaccording to the platform of the French Institute dedicated to the international dissemination of its cinematography.
During the presentation of what the festival will bring, the French ambassador to Cuba, Raphaël Trannoy, highlighted the diversity of the selected films and the role of this meeting as a space for cultural exchange between both countries. The exhibition has been consolidated, over more than two decades, as one of the main opportunities for the Cuban public to access recent French productions and representative works of that cinematography.
The new edition will take place in a particularly difficult context for Cuban movie theaters, affected by the energy crisis, blackouts and material limitations that condition cultural activity. Despite these circumstances, the festival maintains its commitment to film exhibition on the big screen and to bringing to the island’s public a selection of films that hardly reach the usual commercial circuits.
