The president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), Francisco Egas, assured this Thursday, during the 82nd Ordinary Congress of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), that they hope to receive a “positive response in the coming days” from Moisés Caicedo.
The midfielder was sent off on the last qualifying round against Argentina and will have to pay a one-match suspension in the World Cup against the Ivory Coast, La Tri’s first rival in the tournament.
“We had a protocol visit with the president (Daniel Noboa Azín) who was kind enough to receive us to exchange ideas about the World Cup, about the future of soccer, Ecuadorian soccer and its problems, investments…,” said Egas in dialogue with the press.
Regarding the current situation of Moisés Caicedo, who is suspended for the first match of the World Cup against the Ivory Coast, he said: “It is an issue that we have discussed with the president of FIFA, we hope for a positive resolution in the coming days and I hope we have it because for us it is very important.”
On the other hand, Egas assured that today Ecuador has no plans to host a Copa América.
“We are always open to this type of projects, we must be aware that today the Copa América is not the same as it was thirty-odd years ago when we last organized it. The Copa América has grown a lot and the demands for infrastructure and logistics are very great,” he said.
And he added: “We are always open, but for now it must be said that the country has to work a lot to be able to host such a tournament.”
