The French connection will be the main innovation of the airport’s new regular route contract, which will replace the current scheme from 1 January. The terms of reference approved by Government establishes that the future awardee will have to maintain the flights with Madrid i Palma and incorporate Pariswhich will start with a weekly flight toCharles de Gaulle or Orly airport. There would be the possibility, in the future, of valuing an increase in frequency. The tender sets a minimum of 1,400 flight hours per year and allows the companies to propose improvements above the minimum required services. The contract will have a duration of four years, extendable for two more, and a maximum ceiling of five million euros per year.
At the same time, it is also studied to strengthen the connection with Madrid. Currently, the Spanish capital has two weekly frequencies from the infrastructure of theHigh Urgell and a third is being studied. The option would allow it to go from two to three flights per week and strengthen a route that has been operating regularly since December 2021.
The new competition will also mean a change of operator. Air Nostrumwhich currently exploits connections with Madrid and Palmadid not enter the tender and will stop providing the service when the current contract ends, on December 31.
