Muscat: Twenty-seven crew members merchant ship CAPE DAO, flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda were saved in an evacuation operation conducted by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) vessel, in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities.
These crew members were evacuated and provided with necessary medical care after the ship was targeted 25 nautical miles off the coast of Musandam Governorate. The attack resulted in a fire in the engine room and the death of one crew member.
The sailor killed was an Indian national according to the Indian embassy in Oman, which in close coordination with the authorities. 19 of the 27 rescued are also Indians.
“We are closely monitoring the attack on MV Cape Dao today while transiting toward India and are in close coordination with Omani authorities regarding the safety of all crew on board, including 19 Indian nationals. We are deeply saddened by the loss of one Indian national in this attack.”
