The African Union Peace and Security Council praised the efforts of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as a champion of the African Union in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism, in a statement adopted by the Council during its 1,369th meeting at the ministerial level, held yesterday, Wednesday, in New York City.
In its statement on the topic “Good Neighborhood and Regional Responses to Security and Terrorism Challenges in Africa,” the Council stressed the importance of efforts aimed at advancing the African Union’s agenda in the field of combating terrorism and violent extremism.
The Council called on the African Union Commission to expedite the completion of the African arrest warrant and the African database for terrorists, with the aim of strengthening cross-border judicial cooperation, disrupting illicit supply networks, and addressing the challenge of regional safe havens.
The African Peace and Security Council also renewed its request to the Union Commission, in line with African Union Assembly Decision No. 978 of February 2026, to establish a continental framework to address terrorist use of emerging technologies, including drones, encrypted platforms and digital finance.
The Council stressed the need for this framework to be based on the “Algeria Guiding Principles,” while ensuring its compatibility with relevant international standards.
