‘Cartography of an island’ brings together eleven Cuban artists from different generations in Mexico

Nuevo León (Mexico)/The collective exhibition Mapping of an island brings to Nuevo León a journey through Cuban art through eleven creators from very different generations and trajectories: Osvaldo González Aguiar, Segundo Planes, Juan Miguel Pozo, Tomás Esson, José Bedia, Ariel Cabrera, Luis Cruz, Alejandro Aguilera, Raúl Cordero, Flavio Garciandía and Ernesto Pujol. The exhibition will remain open for a month at Galería Estéreo, a space founded in 2006 and dedicated to international contemporary art.

The title proposes to read the Island not only as a geographical territory, but as a space that can be reconstructed from different experiences, memories and imaginaries. The selection is especially broad from a generational point of view: it brings together fundamental figures of the renewal of Cuban art of the 1980s and 1990s with artists from later promotions and authors who have developed a good part of their career outside Cuba.

Estéreo’s relationship with several of them is not circumstantial. The gallery includes among its represented artists Ariel Cabrera, Raúl Cordero and Juan Pozo, and in January 2026 it also presented Serendipityan exhibition by Osvaldo González Aguiar within the Monterrey Arts Week.
