PARAMARIBO — In the past period, the Surinamese Business Association (VSB) has once again requested attention from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZ) for bottlenecks that entrepreneurs experience during import procedures and the application of applicable regulations.
One of the bottlenecks concerns a member’s previously held container. During a meeting with EZ earlier in August, it was promised that a written explanation would be provided as to why the container in question was initially detained and on what basis it was subsequently released.

For the VSB, this is not just about the individual case. Clarity about procedures, assessment criteria and applicable rules is necessary to prevent other companies from being confronted with similar situations. Entrepreneurs must be able to know in advance which requirements they must meet and must be able to trust that regulations are applied consistently and transparently.
The VSB continues to advocate predictable trade and import policy, transparent procedures and a level playing field. Especially for manufacturing companies, it is essential that necessary raw materials, packaging materials and other production inputs are not unnecessarily delayed.
