In a shocking scene that shook the political and media circles in Peru, an electoral round turned into a bloody tragedy after the candidate for the position of governor of the Ancash region, Susi Isabel Aponte Polo, was killed after she was exposed to gunfire during an electoral activity in the city of Caraz.
And according to Local and international media, Aponte, a journalist and candidate for the “Socios por Áncash” movement, was participating in an election tour in a market when a gunman shot her, leading to her death, while five other people were injured in the attack.

The Peruvian authorities announced the arrest of a person suspected of carrying out the attack, and the seizure of a firearm from his possession. Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the crime, determine its motives, and whether the attack is linked to the candidate’s political activity.
Aponte had previously spoken about being subjected to death threats, and was also known for her journalistic activity and criticism of corruption files and alleged violations, which are data that the authorities are studying in the context of the investigation, without this meaning a direct link between her and the assassination process has been proven.
