The police officers have collaborated with the Andorran police in the investigation of thefatal accident on 1 August in Encampin which a 74-year-old woman died and four other people were injured. The agents of the Catalan body moved a few days ago to the principality to intervene in the proceedings and they did the disassembly and preservation of the switchboard ACM (Airbag Control Module) of the vehicle that caused the accident, as reported by Segre newspaper. this one electronic device may contain data recorded in the previous moments to the shock and the information stored there can provide elements to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and help determine the circumstances in which it occurred.
Before removing the control unit, the agents made a preliminary extraction of the vehicle’s data using the Crash Scan tool and the action made it possible to confirm the existence of information of interest for the investigation.
The police intervention is produced at the request of the Penal Battalion of the Principalitywho has requested the collaboration of the Regional Road Accident Investigation Unit of the High Pyrenees and Aran Regional Traffic Area. The Catalan medium points out that this is the first occasion in which a cooperation of this type has been carried out between the two bodies.
The switchboard will be analyzed by theCentral Police Accident Investigation Areawho will draw up a technical expert report that will later be sent to the Andorran judicial authority to incorporate it into the proceedings.
The accident occurred on Avinguda de la Bartra, in Encamp, and three cars were involved, two with Andorran registration and one with French registration. The police then launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the collision.
Two weeks later, the police arrested a 36-year-old man, one of the drivers involved, as the alleged cause of the accident. According to the police force, he was driving with a blood alcohol level of 1.72 grams per liter and would have exceeded the speed limit.
