The Panama team already has its 27 called up for the Asian tour that it will hold in the coming weeks. Among those called up, the absence of Kadir Barría, from Botafogo, stands out.
Thomas Christiansen referred to the striker’s absence and highlighted that he preferred to call up new players that he had not yet had the opportunity to observe in person, but he did not rule him out for future calls. What drew powerful attention was his inclusion on the reserve list prior to the 2026 World Cup, however on this occasion he was not mentioned.
The coach also spoke about how this will be a tour of “opportunities” and he hopes that those chosen will take that step forward and earn their call for future calls.
Absence of Kadir Barría
“He can play as a striker and we have even seen him as a winger, in other games as a double striker. He is young and perhaps in the near future he can be with us. Regarding other names that are not there, some I already know and they may arrive in November. For those who have not been playing, this call is an opportunity for them.”
Return of Adalberto Carrasquilla
“It is an option to play with two strikers, we have to see how the players are when they arrive. From the list it is an option, but there are players who are playing with a single striker in their clubs. We have had situations where players do not play with their clubs, but here they do and we want them to regain that confidence, that joy. (Cristian Martínez), Fulo and (Carlos) Harvey were not in good condition before the World Cup, we lifted their spirits and they were important.”
Departure of Christian Beguer
“It’s a shame, but there have been situations and he preferred to go to Spain. It was an obligation for the coaching staff to continue living here in Panama and to be closely involved with the national team. It was because of a family matter.”
Call from Rafael Mosquera
“I have spoken with their sports director who was a teammate of mine. It was important that the three players on the team (Omar Valencia along with Mijahir Jiménez) have minutes with Red Bull and that they arrive with some training.”
Martín Morán and his present in Costa Rica
“We have followed his evolution, he was one of the ones we had in that position. We wanted to take (Azarías) Londoño, we have (Giovany) Herbert. We have to continue evolving.”
Inclusion of Martín Krug
“The important thing is to play. We have another central defender who is (Joseph) Jones, we have to work on them and pamper them so that they make that leap to the national team.”
Josué Vergara’s turn
“I want to increase competition and also youth. We are excited about what (Josué) Vergara is doing with his club. His qualities, what he has shown. Last season he did interesting things but in a ‘minor’ league. In November he may also have this opportunity.”
