The United States refused to grant Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas an entry visa to participate in attendance at the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, in a move repeated for the second year in a row.
And transfer “Al Sharq” website, Palestinian officials said that the US administration refused to grant President Mahmoud Abbas an entry visa to participate in the session of the United Nations General Assembly, which begins at the level of leaders of countries, on Friday.
The officials said that the Palestinian Authority received a negative response regarding requests for visas for the official Palestinian delegation, including President Mahmoud Abbas, to enter American territory to participate in the meetings.
The US administration prevented Abbas from participating in the United Nations General Assembly session last year.
The US State Department announced the extension of visa restrictions imposed on officials in the Palestinian Authority and the Liberation Organization, justifying the decision by not implementing previous reforms and commitments, in addition to what it described as moves to internationalize the Zionist-Palestinian conflict through international courts and seeking recognition of a Palestinian state outside direct negotiations.
On the other hand, Palestinian officials said that the decision comes in light of the increasing international movements to recognize the State of Palestine, considering that preventing Abbas from participating deprives the Palestinian leadership of an important diplomatic presence during United Nations meetings.
