Sunday 19 July was a very special day for the 25-year-old scout leader Parnûna Motzfeldt Olsen from Nuummi Spejderit. In short, a day she will never forget.
In the evening, she carried the flag with Erfalasorput in front of 30,000 other scouts at the festive and spectacular opening of the Scout Camp in the Hedeland nature area near Roskilde in Denmark. The camp is the largest scout camp in the Nordics. The vast majority of the participants are Danish, but a good 3,000 scouts from other countries also take part.
Sunday 19 July was a very special day for the 25-year-old scout leader Parnûna Motzfeldt Olsen from Nuummi Spejderit. In short, a day she will never forget.
In the evening, she carried the flag with Erfalasorput in front of 30,000 other scouts at the festive and spectacular opening of the Scout Camp in the Hedeland nature area near Roskilde in Denmark. The camp is the largest scout camp in the Nordics. The vast majority of the participants are Danish, but a good 3,000 scouts from other countries also take part.
– It was both a great and somewhat surprising experience. Because when Greenland was mentioned from the stage, there was enormous applause from the many scouts. Almost as big as when the march in was finished with the Danish flag. I was very moved, says Parnûna.
Campfire on the ski hill
The opening campfire took place at the foot of Hedeland’s large ski slope, where the many scouts sat on the ground up the slopes. The flags were brought in at the end of the opening ceremony – first the World Scout flag, then the foreign flags and finally the Dannebrog.
The flag parade was highly choreographed. First the scouts with the many flags came running into the square on the roads between the audience. Then they came up the stage individually and went down in front, where the standard bearers squatted with the flags in front of the audience.
– We spent most of Sunday rehearsing. We practiced it through three times in the morning and afternoon. Before the dress rehearsal, we had a break of a few hours, says Parnûna.
Scout wedding
That break also became something very special for Parnûna. Because she used the break to get married at a scout wedding with her beloved Malik Dollerup-Scheibel, who is also a leader in Nuummi Spejderit.
– It was a good occasion. Because it was exactly 10 months ago that we started getting together – and the trip was also my first meeting with my parents-in-law, who had baked a nice cake for the wedding.
The wedding was officiated by group leader Simon Borgert Olsen from Nuummi Spejderit.
A scout wedding is not legally binding, so a real wedding is still on the horizon. But scout weddings are a good occasion to mark the real intentions – and this is often used in the scouting movement, which has 60 million scouts worldwide. The scout wedding marks the couple’s intentions – and it is also a good reason to eat cake between all the activities at a scout camp.
Now it stands on wheat bread days for Parnûna and Malik. But no honeymoon.
– We are at scout camp. It is the best wheat bread holiday you can imagine. And quite frankly – today is probably the greatest day of my life, Parnûna said when the opening campfire was over.
– Now I’m going to go up to Malik and hold hands a little, because even though we got married, we haven’t seen much of each other today – and then we’re going to have a cup of coffee around the group’s small campfire while the sun goes down in silence. The way all scouts love it.
