The mayor of the city of Doral, Christi Fraga, assured that the local administration does not share information or databases of its residents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The statement was issued within the framework of federal interventions in the state of Florida, which generated fear of deportation among the migrant population.
However, the official clarified during an interview with journalist Alejandra Oraa that the mayor’s office lacks prior notification channels or operational coordination directly with federal immigration forces.
“We don’t have any contact, we don’t have no information that is shared; They don’t share us. We find out that they are in the city the same way the community finds out: seeing it on the networks, because a resident communicates it. It’s the only way we know they’re driving some kind of operation in our city. There is no data that is shared, neither they to us nor we to them. We do not have that daily communication with their agents,” he insisted.
State legal framework
Likewise, the mayor made reference to the official records of the state of Florida on 287(g) agreements, a mechanism that empowers the forces of local order to be exercised immigration control functions.
“You will see that Doral says zero: that we do not have any trained person, that we have never been operational – it says ‘operational: non-active’ – and that we have never had an arrest that has involved ICE,” he added.
Regarding the possibility of declaring Doral as a sanctuary city, Fraga emphasized that the legislation of the state of Florida expressly prohibits such categorization and recalled that the provisions of the 287(g) agreement They have been in force in the entity for more than two decades.
