The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) reported a new earthquake in the early hours of this Saturday, September 12. According to the entity’s information, The earthquake was of magnitude 4.6 and was reported in the municipality of Istmina, Chocó.
The earthquake was recorded at 06:16 local time and at a depth of 43 kilometers. Users on social networks report that it was felt in several municipalities of Valle del Cauca, Risaralda and Chocó.

According to the updated bulletin of the Colombian Geological Service, the epicenter was located in the municipality of Istmina, Chocó, approximately 13 kilometers from Sipí. The event had a latitude of 4.46 and a longitude of -76.72.
The earthquake was felt in several parts of the country; Through social networks they report that inhabitants of Pereira, Cali, Yumbo, Buga, Circasia, Armenia, Dosquebradas, Seville and other municipalities.
Additionally, around 10:05 local time this Saturday, September 12, the Colombian Geological Service reported a new earthquake with an epicenter in the department of Chocó.
The entity reported in its bulletin that the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.9 and a depth of 43 kilometers. The epicenter occurred in the municipality of Istmina, 23 kilometers from Sipí.
How to act during an earthquake?
After an earthquake, the Colombian Geological Service recommends staying calm and following the following recommendations:
- Seek protection immediately.
- If you are in earthquake-resistant construction, position yourself near columns or under a desk and stay away from windows and objects that could fall.
- If you are in an informal construction, evacuate carefully and be alert for potential hazards during your exit.
- Do not use elevators to evacuate.
- Do not stand under door frames, as these are not safe areas and could break or collapse.
