The interim government called on structural calculation companies, civil engineers and students to join the national plan for the repair and reinforcement of buildings damaged by the earthquakes of June 24.
The Minister of Transportation, Francisco Garcés, urged sector specialists to register on the official web platform to complete a training and certification process that will allow them to execute projects assigned by the Executive.
“We also call on final year students of Civil Engineering and Architecture to register as assistants to work alongside specialists in the inspection, repair and reinforcement of affected homes,” said Garcés through a message published in X.
The Executive’s plan has the technical support of the College of Engineers of Venezuela, which has collaborated in the structural evaluation of the affected properties.
International Alliance for Debris Removal
The government initiative joins the agreement signed with the American engineering firm Miyamoto International. The first phase of this contract includes the removal of 3 million metric tons of debris caused by the double earthquake.
The agreement seeks the exchange of technical knowledge, the updating of national construction standards and the implementation of advanced protocols for the prevention of disasters and the protection of the population, in accordance with the Ministry of Communication.
The company specialized in disaster risk management confirmed on its web portal that it has maintained a presence in the country since June, by monitoring conditions on the ground, field observations and providing engineering updates to respond to the emergency.
Balance of tragedy
The latest official balance sheet, published two months after the disaster, reflects the magnitude of the impact: the earthquakes caused at least 6,509 deaths, in addition to leaving 14,239 homes with moderate damage and 11,001 with serious damage.
