The People’s United Party (PUP) held its delegate convention for Belize City on Sunday, selecting its mayoral and councillor candidates for the March 2027 municipal elections from a field of twenty-one candidates.
Polls opened at 9:00am and closed at 4:00pm, overseen by Presiding Officer John Bernard Wade alongside Order of Distinguished Service representatives Sylvia Gillett, Maureen Leslie, and Ayonie Briceno. A total of 787 delegates or their alternates cast ballots.
Eluide Donovan Miller won the mayoral race with 427 votes, edging out Allan Pollard Jr., who received 341 votes.
For the nineteen councillor seats, Kristian “Toxico” Alpuche topped the polls with 564 votes, followed by Kirkland Henry Smith with 465, Brendan “Beeez” Bouloy with 466, Kaya Cattouse with 446, Sherwin “Shillin” Garcia with 442, Edmund “Chiney Bwai” Kwan with 437, Dorian Jeremy Usher with 431, Stephanne Michelle Hamilton with 412, Simon Peter Noralez with 395, Darwin “Puppy” Leslie with 384, and Malcolm Marley Nunez with 383.
Miller told News 5, “This has been a very hectic and tiring time over the past three to four weeks, but each and every day I reminded myself of my favourite bible verse, that I can do all things. So I had to remind myself of tht each and every day and to work harder that the day before.”
With Belize City’s convention complete, the PUP says it will now turn its attention to endorsement conventions for its slates in Orange Walk, San Pedro, and Dangriga towns, along with its slate for the City of Belmopan, as the party looks ahead to the 2027 municipal elections.
