Some residents of Clare Valley in the South Leeward constituency are calling on the relevant authorities to address an infestation of African snails in that community.
“All who know dem does eat dem nastiness here, come down Clare Valley for them. These pests are here climbing the electrical pole. They are taking over the whole community. These things are crawling my blood. Something needs to be done quickly to eradicate these pests,” a Facebook user by the name Gabrielle Neverson wrote on August 20,2026.
The post came almost five months after Minister of Agriculture Israel Bruce said the government had allocated EC$7 million to help eradicate the snails over the next three years.
In that announcement, Minister Bruce also said he had visited Nigeria where these snails were a delicacy. He said they were being eaten in that country and questioned if St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), can probably look into exporting the pest. The idea was shot down by several people.
