Jacques Moretti remanded in custody on domestic violence charges
Keystone-SDA
The owner of a Swiss bar at the centre of a fatal fire, Jacques Moretti, has been remanded in custody accused of violence against his wife, reports the Léman Bleu media outlet.
The couple’s lawyers have stated that these allegations are being investigated in proceedings separate from those relating to the tragedy.
The New Year’s Day fire at The Constellation bar in southwest Switzerland left 41 people dead and 115 injured
According to the Geneva-based media outlet, Jessica Moretti was the victim of “physical violence” during the night of August 11 to 12. “She was injured and had to be hospitalised,” the report states.
In a statement to the media, the couple’s lawyers, Yaël Hayat, Nicola Meier and Patrick Michod, address “the events that recently took place at the Morettis’ home”.
“These events…are exclusively a matter for their private lives, and we will therefore make no comment,” they said. “They should not be confused with the Constellation tragedy but nevertheless form part of a context that cannot be ignored – that of a particularly intense ordeal which the Morettis have been trying to cope with together since January 1.”
