THE DEPARTMENT OF CULTURE introduced a new event, Food and Rhythm, as part of its 2026 Emancipation Month activities, giving members of the public an opportunity to experience traditional Vincentian food and music.
The event was held on Friday, August 7, 2026 on the grounds of the old Public Library in Kingstown, where local vendors offered a variety of traditional foods including ducuna, mandungo bakes, black pudding, souse, and stews.
Among the vendors was Swana Williams, who offered traditional stews and local treats including damsel, plum and sugarcane. Elva Rose also had traditional foods such as black pudding and souse available for purchase. Traditional drumming and music were also featured during the event, as the Department of Culture sought to combine local cuisine with other elements of Vincentian cultural heritage.
