Musicians, artists, filmmakers, designers and other cultural practitioners in Dominica may soon receive more coordinated government support with the establishment of a dedicated creative economy development agency.
The government announced the creation of the Dominica Creative Economy Development Agency, or DCEDA, during the 2026/2027 National Budget presentation by Finance Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre.
He said the initiative recognises that economic opportunities exist well beyond traditional sectors and that Dominica’s creative talent has significant commercial potential.
“As a means of further harnessing the creative talent of our people, the Government has decided to establish Dominica’s Creative Economy Development Agency,” Dr. McIntyre announced.
He said the government intends to spend the coming months “consulting artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, event organisers, cultural practitioners and other stakeholders before finalising the new agency’s structure.”
The administration said it wants the eventual framework to reflect the actual needs and ambitions of people working within the sector.
The move forms part of government’s wider economic diversification strategy, which reportedly seeks to create additional sources of income and employment while reducing Dominica’s vulnerability to external economic shocks
