KOROR, Palau — Team OEK clinched the 2026 Department Softball League championship Friday, capping a season that began April 14 with a ceremonial opening that featured the Honorable Speaker, senators and delegates.
The tournament opened when legislative leaders took the field to start play. On July 24, Team OEK finished the schedule as league champions after a campaign driven by “determination, teamwork, and resilience,” qualities organizers and players credited for the win.
Throughout the tournament, OEK staff sustained momentum and helped carry the team to a “well-deserved championship victory,” the league announcement said, expressing “heartfelt gratitude” to the leadership of the Olbiil Era Kelulau for its support and encouragement during the season.
“What a season. What a team. What a finish,” the statement read, celebrating the team’s accomplishment and its role representing both houses of the Olbiil Era Kelulau at the event.
The department league offered a forum for government employees and elected officials to engage in friendly competition while promoting teamwork and community engagement. Team OEK’s title marks the conclusion of the league’s schedule and highlights the participation of staff from across the legislature.
Organizers thanked the Olbiil Era Kelulau leadership for backing the team throughout the season, and congratulated Team OEK for “this outstanding achievement,” the release said. The announcement closed by thanking the team for “proudly representing both Houses of the Olbiil Era Kelulau throughout the tournament.”
The championship adds to a growing tradition of workplace and departmental sports in Palau, providing employees an opportunity to build camaraderie outside the office while showcasing athletic skills on a public stage.
