President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on April 22 at the next meeting of the Council of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Island Rescue (IFRC) in Astana participated.
In accordance with the agenda, the results of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of the ICRC in 2023-2026 were summarized, and views were exchanged on current issues of ecology, water resources management and improvement of the socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin.
The President of Uzbekistan in his speech He noted that the International Fund for Saving the Island has been operating as a unique regional structure, and its role and importance are increasing in the conditions of increasing water consumption and climate change, which are causing water shortages in Central Asia.
The leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan also spoke at the meeting of the CSTO.
At the end of the event, the leaders signed the Astana Declaration, decisions on the progress of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, declaring March 26 as the International Day of the Aral Sea, Amudarya and Syrdarya, and electing the leader of Uzbekistan as the president of the fund in 2027-2029. From 2027, the chairmanship of the International Fund to Save the Island will be transferred to Uzbekistan.
