The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) hosted the 2026 MOFA Taiwan Scholarship Recipients Orientation and RMI Taiwan Alumni Luncheon at the Marshall Islands Resort (MIR) on July 22, 2026. This year, a total of 20 scholarship recipients were honored, with 16 recipients planning to study at the Mandarin Studies and Culture Center of Ming Chuan University in their first year, before pursuing their degree programs. Three recipients will directly enroll in undergraduate programs, and 1 recipient will pursue a master’s degree in Nursing and Midwifery. (The list of scholarship recipients is attached below.)
During the orientation, Minister Hank Liu, on behalf of Ambassador Herbert Hsu, congratulated the scholarship recipients on earning the opportunity to pursue higher education in Taiwan. He encouraged them not only to focus on their academic studies but also to immerse themselves in Taiwan’s culture, language, and everyday life. He further urged the students to cherish this valuable opportunity and to seek support from their teachers, friends, family members, and the Embassy whenever they encounter challenges, reminding them not to give up easily.
RMI Ambassador to the ROC (Taiwan), Anjanette Kattil also delivered virtual remarks. She warmly welcomed the students to Taiwan and emphasized that the Marshallese Embassy in Taiwan would always serve as a strong source of support for Marshallese students. She also encouraged them to act as “Friendship Ambassadors” between the Marshall Islands and Taiwan by introducing Marshallese history and culture to their Taiwanese friends and strengthening the close ties between the two countries.
The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to Dexter Johnny, Cody Jack, and Lotijar Albertarr, representatives of the Marshall Islands Taiwan Alumni Association, for taking the time to share their valuable experiences of studying in Taiwan with the new scholarship recipients. Their practical advice and warm encouragement helped ease the students’ concerns while building their confidence and excitement for the new chapter ahead. During the orientation, Secretary Cindy Tsai of the Embassy also briefed the scholarship recipients on scholarship regulations, pre-departure arrangements, and practical information about studying and living in Taiwan to help them prepare for their journey.
For many years, Taiwan has actively promoted educational cooperation and exchanges with the Marshall Islands through programs such as the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and the ROC(Taiwan)-RMI Presidents’ Scholarship. To date, MOFA Taiwan Scholarship program have enabled more than 150 Marshallese students to pursue higher education in Taiwan.
