The senator Mirtha Vasquez (Now Nation) announced the completion of an agreement between four groups for the election of the Board of Directors of the Senate. The bloc is made up of Ahora Nación, Together for Peru, the Civic Obras Party and the Good Government Party.
“We have been informed that we have reached a good agreement between four political groups that are Together for Peru, the Civic Works Party, and now the Good Government that has decided to join this democratic faction together with Ahora Nación,” he declared for Canal N.
Along these lines, the senator assured that they hope to have 30 and 30, which would mean a tie. “Normally when there is a tie, we go to the second round, and I hope there are Democratic congressmen who really decide and understand what is important right now for democracy.”
“This is not a whim nor is it an interest in entering into contradiction; it is an issue of democracy. There is one fundamental thing, if the Legislature is going to supervise the Executive, the ethical and democratic thing is that whoever supervises is not part of the same party as the person who is in the Executive,” he pointed out.

For his part, Senator Alejandro Muñante, representative of Renovación Popular, assured that he was elected by caucus to represent them on the Board of Directors. However, the formation of the list “will depend on the negotiations that are carried out with the other parties, other benches; we are waiting for some final conversations, we believe that we are a democratic option.”

At another time, Muñante questioned Vásquez’s statements and recalled his ties with former president Pedro Castillo. “I heard Senator Mirtha Vásquez say that she appealed to the democratic spirit, but I do not find any type of affinity or similarity between what is democratic and what was done by Pedro Castillo Terrones, that December 7, 2022,” he declared on Canal N.
Likewise, the parliamentarian of Popular Renewal He rejected the composition of the announced multiparty bloc and made a direct call to the member benches. “I call on the Good Government democrats, on the true democrats of the Obras party, on the military who are on that bench to not become one with those who wanted to perpetrate a coup d’état, to not become one with those who persecuted our military and police,” he added.
