Trinidad and Tobago signs regional cybersecurity partnership

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago has signed a Letter of Intent with the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre (LAC4) to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity capabilities.

According to a Government of Trinidad and Tobago press release, the agreement was signed on July 24, 2026, at the Ministry of Homeland Security’s headquarters in Port of Spain. The partnership aims to improve cybersecurity governance, build institutional capacity and enhance cooperation in addressing cyber threats.

LAC4, an initiative supported by the European Union, provides technical assistance, specialized training, policy dialogue and knowledge-sharing across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander called the agreement “an important milestone” in strengthening national cybersecurity and regional cooperation.

The partnership will also allow Trinidad and Tobago to participate in regional cyber exercises and strengthen incident response capabilities, according to TT-CSIRT Manager Anish Bachu.

EU Ambassador Cécile Tassin said joining LAC4 demonstrates that the country views cybersecurity as “a strategic investment in the country’s digital future.”

The Ministry said it will now work with LAC4 and regional partners to implement capacity-building initiatives, strengthen the National Cybersecurity Strategy and improve the resilience of the country’s digital infrastructure.
