SIGNIFICANT EVENTS OF JUNE 30
Today is celebrated International Asteroid Day, which was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in order to “raise public awareness of the dangers of asteroid impacts.”
According to scientists, there may be from 1.1 to 1.9 million asteroids in the Solar System – objects measuring more than 1 km. According to the NASA Center, more than 16 thousand objects approaching the Earth have been discovered to date.

A collision with an asteroid larger than 3 km in size can lead to the destruction of civilization, at a maximum, and at a minimum, cause significant damage and destruction. How it happened on June 30, 1908, when a giant fireball flew over the territory of Central Siberia between the Lower Tunguska and Lena rivers and A meteorite nicknamed “Tunguska” fell to Earth.
The flight of the ball was accompanied by sound and light effects and ended with an explosion, the power of which is estimated at 40-50 megatons, which corresponds to the energy of the most powerful (exploded) hydrogen bomb.

The blast wave destroyed a forest within a radius of 40 km, killed animals, and injured people. Due to a powerful flash of light and a stream of hot gases, a forest fire broke out, completing the devastation of the area. Over a vast area, starting from the Yenisei River and ending with the Atlantic coast of Europe, for several nights in a row, unprecedented in scale and completely unusual light phenomena were observed, which went down in history under the name “bright nights of the summer of 1908.”
However, the nature of the Tunguska phenomenon still remains unclear and researchers, scientists and enthusiasts have not yet come to a consensus on this event. And in memory of this event, a new international date appeared – Asteroid Day.
And also from cosmic events. On this day in 1971 The crew of the Soyuz-11 spacecraft died during their return to Earth.
The crew consisting of Georgy Dobrovolsky, Vladislav Volkov and Viktor Patsayev conducted unique experiments in orbit for 23 days.

However, when they were already descending to Earth, the breathing ventilation valve unexpectedly opened, connecting the cabin with the outside environment. The pressure in the descent module dropped sharply, the astronauts lost consciousness and were unable to close the valve. Thus, due to a leak in the descent module, the crew died.
Craters on the Moon and minor planets of the solar system are named in memory of the heroes of space.
June 30 is celebrated International Day of Parliamentarism. It was established by a decision of the UN General Assembly in memory of the first international conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held on this day in 1889.
This global organization of parliaments from different countries, which exists to this day, is designed to improve the institutions of parliamentarism throughout the world, emphasizing its importance in improving people’s lives.

June 30, 1894 London’s most famous bridge, Tower Bridge, was opened. Construction work began on June 21, 1886 and continued for 8 years. Over one million pounds was spent on the construction of the bridge. The bridge was inaugurated by Prince Edward of Wales and his wife Princess Alexandra.
Tower Bridge has been the hallmark of the British capital for more than a hundred years. The British affectionately call him “a steel skeleton in a stone shirt.” The towers of the bridge offer a magnificent view of the city, and tourists from all over the world love to take pictures against its background.
In 1947, scientists William Shockley, Walter Brattain, and John Bardeen conducted semiconductor experiments that led to the invention of the “semiconductor triode,” and June 30, 1948 Bell Laboratories at a press conference officially presented this invention, called the transistor.
Newspaper about the first demonstration of the transistor New York Times reported on July 1, 1948 on the penultimate page: “Yesterday Bell Telephone Laboratories demonstrated for the first time an instrument it has invented called the transistor, which in some cases can be used in the field of radio engineering instead of vacuum tubes.”

The news, according to the editor, did not resemble a sensation. The public did not initially show interest in the new device, and Bell tried to promote the new product by distributing licenses to use the transistor to everyone. Meanwhile, investors made millions of dollars in investments in radio tubes, which, after thirty years of development, were experiencing a boom – a new invention would put an end to it.
