Climate change had not really been taken seriously until now. If it gets a little hotter in Europe, it won’t do us any harm, given all the rainy summers we always have. As of last week, everyone knows what “a little hotter” actually means. As a reminder: Due to the progress of global warming, this summer is likely to be the most pleasant of all the summers we will experience.
Of all the continents, Europe is heating up according to the EU climate service Copernicus by the way, the fastest. Heat waves like last week’s will become more frequent and probably even hotter in the future. Given this, one should expect that officials will make sufficient preparations to protect the population from the heat – as far as this is possible. A brief assessment of the past week shows that the reactions can, to say the least, be improved. If you’re a student, a homeless person, or a construction worker, at least you shouldn’t expect too much from this government.
