The president Luis Abinader led the opening of the “Sustainable Expo 2026“, a platform that integrates the public and private sectors with the mission of promoting actions that balance economic growth, environmental care and social well-being.
After 10:30 in the morning this Wednesday, the president, when leading the activity, toured the various stands that seek to promote welfare projects in the country.
Among the proposals presented at the Sustainable Expo, the “Breathing City” initiative of the Mayor of the National DistrictSinoma: industrial solutions for a greener future, Refidomsa: energy that drives the country, Geotechnical, Record Styles with Sustainable Eco Uniforms and other projects.
During the fair, the president of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos Polancovalued this type of meeting as positive, which encourages the country to worry about changes in the environment.
“We cannot live with our backs to sustainability. It is everyone’s commitment. I understand that it is an initiative that all good citizens must take on. You see what is happening with climate changeThat is, we must all care about the environment and make use of it, knowing that we are borrowing the environment from future generations,” he said.
In addition, he spoke about the work of Ministry of Environment for promoting an environmental culture in the country.
“We must congratulate the minister of the Environment, which has been working hard, to all environmentalists and all those personalities who in one way or another care about what environmental protection in the Dominican Republic says,” said the congressman.
For her part, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Rigoberta Menchú, focused her message on the human dimension of sustainability, highlighting that sustainability cannot be developed without dignity, inclusion and social justice.
He pointed out that the current crises demand collective, sustainable responses with a long-term vision.
Menchú highlighted the importance of the private sector, the Governmentinstitutions and civil society work together, pointing out that not all countries actively promote this multi-sector alliance.
“Society in general needs to be heard and propose and, as we provide solutions to social proposals, we really achieve that peace is culture and not just a peace of conflicts,” said the activist from Guatemala.
Sustainability is a central theme
The president of the Economic and Social Development Council of Santo Domingo (Codessd), Samuel Sena, maintained that sustainability has gone from being a complementary issue to becoming a central axis of development.
“Sustainability is not a luxury, it is not an obsession, it is not a parallel conversation, it is the line that separates progress from regression, the possible future from the future, future,” he said.
“Today we are not here to talk about sustainability as a nice concept nor as a goal of change; Today we come to talk about sustainability as what it really is, an unlimited condition, a condition that will have the change of the revolution.”
He indicated that “Sustainable Expo” is born from the truth of understanding that the great challenges of the times, water, energy, waste, our cities, our way of producing, are not resolved only with a vision, but also to make different decisions that may not be immediately eliminated, but that do guarantee a future.

According to the organizers of the activity, Expo Sostenible 2026 will take place over two days.
With an agenda that includes topics such as circular economy, water security, sustainable investment, urban transformation, food systems and resilience, reflecting a comprehensive approach that recognizes the interconnection of current challenges.
