MORE THAN 20 residents from the Central Kingstown community are expected to benefit from a pastry making course being organised by the Central Kingstown Development Organisation (CKDO), as part of efforts to equip unemployed persons with practical skills for income generation.
President, Leroy Rock told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview on Monday, June 29, 2026, that participants will undergo training three times a week for a period of two months. The sessions are expected to be held at the Kingstown Technical Institute (KTI), with the programme scheduled to begin at the end of July.
A press release issued by the organisation, states that the initiative is aimed at providing unemployed persons “…with practical and marketable skills that can lead to self-employment and greater economic opportunities”. Participants will receive hands-on training in pastry making and baking techniques designed to prepare them for income-generating opportunities within the food industry. Rock said the programme will also include a certification
component under which 13 participants will receive certification through the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA), while seven participants will be certified through the Ministry of Education.The CKDO is hoping to collaborate with the skills sector in the Ministry of Education and the SSDA to ensure participants are able to receive recognised certification upon successfully completing the course. “This training programme is intended to empower individuals with a valuable and marketable skill, while also giving them the opportunity to obtain certification that can improve their employment prospects,” Rock said.
