Prince Harry could cancel his family’s upcoming visit to Great Britain after he was refused police protection, the Guardian writes today, June 28.
The Duke of Sussex’s trip to Britain is in doubt after the government rejected his request for taxpayer-funded security.
According to the newspaper, after such a decision by the British government, Harry is reconsidering his plans to bring his wife Megan and two children to Great Britain next month.
It was to be their first family trip to Britain in four years, and the visit is linked to the “Invincible Games”, due to be held in Birmingham in July, in which Britain’s wounded veterans compete.
It was reported last Sunday that Prince Harry was “excited” that seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet will meet King Charles again during the visit, but that now appears uncertain, according to the Guardian.
On this occasion, the government spokesman announced today that the UK government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate.
“Our long-standing policy is not to provide detailed information about these arrangements, as this could jeopardize their integrity and affect the safety of individuals,” he added, reports Tanjug.
According to the paper, this decision seriously affected Harry, just days before the family was due to arrive, but he still wanted to find a way to make the trip a success.
Last year, Harry lost a legal battle against the UK Home Office over automatic police protection during his stay in the UK, having previously claimed it was unsafe to bring his family without such measures.
He has since been granted a full risk assessment and has been awaiting a final decision from the Royal Executive Committee on VIP visits (Ravek), as well as the Home Office, which is responsible for approving such protection.
Harry met his father, King Charles, last September at Clarence House in London, their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024.
The meeting was considered the first step in improving relations between them, according to the Guardian.
Charles has not seen his grandchildren since 2022, when the platinum jubilee celebration of the late Queen Elizabeth II was held.
It is not known whether the king planned to meet his grandchildren during his visit next month, but Harry has reportedly told friends in the US that he is excited for his children to reconnect with their grandfather.
A Los Angeles-based business associate of Harry and Meghan told Britain’s Telegraph there had been a “thaw” between the king and his youngest son following Harry’s public outbursts in his memoirs and television interviews.
