Madre de Dios: escape attempt in Puerto Maldonado prison thwarted | INPE

An escape attempt was thwarted Puerto Maldonado Penitentiary Establishmentin the province of Tambopata, region Mother of Godafter an inmate managed to scale part of the facility’s infrastructure.

The event involved José Anthony Soto Vásquezof Venezuelan nationality, who was detained in the maximum security pavilion 4.

According to information from the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE)the inmate tried to evade security after climbing the wall of the pavilion using the mesh installed on the perimeter wall, at the height of tower 4.

After passing that area, it moved across the ceiling of the meditation environment and the crafts workshop, which triggered the establishment’s security alerts.

Given the situation, the director of the prison immediately activated the operational plan against escapes, ordering the total closure of accesses and the cordoning off of internal and external routes. As a result, the inmate was subdued and placed under control by prison staff, preventing his escape.

The incident was reported to the National Police of Peru and to the Public Ministry, which has already initiated the corresponding proceedings.
