The most complex point of the emergency in Buenaventura, caused by the water shortage that affected more than 70% of its population, has been overcome. After completing the repair work on the main pipelinethe challenge now is to guarantee that the vital liquid returns without problems to all homes.
That is why, from the Unified Command Post (PMU), the Government of Valle del Cauca maintains technical, logistical and humanitarian support in the port on the Pacificworking so that the drinking water service returns in its entirety.

“From the Departmental Secretariat of Risk Management and the Government of Valle del Cauca, we continue to carry out the respective monitoring in constant communication with the SAAB and the Special District of Buenaventurain order to carry out rigorous monitoring to avoid any situation that could alter the normal restoration of the service,” said Francisco Tenorio, Secretary of Risk Management of the Valley.
The official reiterated that the work articulated between the local and regional authorities in the PMU It will remain active indefinitely, until full supply is guaranteed to the people of Buenos Aires.

Articulated work, key to overcoming emergencies

The technical process after civil repair requires controlled management of the pressures to avoid new failures in the distribution network.
The department’s Risk Management Secretary, Francisco Tenorio, explained that filling the main tanks will take several hours before the water is formally pumped into the residential and commercial sectors.

“The filling process will continue for a few hours with the aim of being able to fill the tanks and gradually begin to supply vital fluid to the entire Buenaventura District,” the official said.
He added that while the pressure levels normalize and the supply reaches the community en masse, the Government of the Valley will maintain the active alternative distribution through tank trucks in the sectors most affected, thus guaranteeing the minimum essential supply.
