Someone stole the police Moselle cruiser in Grevenmacher. On Monday he was no longer at his “giraffe quay”. The political whisperer wondered whether the boys and girls from the Moselle Commissariat were hunting evil pirates or were simply looking for a shady spot in the heat.
It’s a good thing no one filed a complaint. Because on Tuesday the boat suddenly appeared again. Not on the Moselle. But dressed up at the military parade in Luxembourg City. Apparently everyone who could swim, drive or march was mobilized for the national holiday. The political whisperer even claims to have heard that a unit wanted to carry the clay pigeon shooting trophy.
Then they stood there on the side of the road. Patriots or simply onlookers? Sometimes it’s not that easy to tell the difference. Just like those who write a message and those who applaud it with a click.
Anyone who publicly approves of a message of rare stupidity will receive a warning. ADR-Weidig saw yellow. Others have long since seen red with him and consider him to be the worst of all the new right-wingers. The political whisperer recommends calm. With one or two petitions we would probably meet completely different people. It used to be said: Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are. Today, a like – or a petition – is often enough.
“Luxembourg must also make its contribution to defense,” said someone at the army festival in the capital on Tuesday. A charm offensive incarnate, thought the political whisperer. The man in the hat somehow reminded him of Luxembourg’s auxiliary bishop. With a hat instead of Caritas. When defending himself, was the man thinking about the fight against climate change? Or rather tanks and cannons?
“They’re talking about war again,” muses the political whisperer as he discovers fans at exorbitant prices on the Darknet. “The little bit of heat isn’t a problem,” some say. Oh yes? Then ask Deutsche Bahn. Or the CFL.
What concerns the political whisperer almost more than the heat wave is that the idea of a European Capital of Culture on the Moselle has so far met with surprisingly little enthusiasm. Is it because of the word Europe? Or the word “culture”? Or maybe it’s just too hot to dream.
Meanwhile, the political whisperer pulls his feet out of the ice water. Maybe the best ideas don’t come from dry land. But with your feet in cold water. (Marco Goetz)
