Travelling in the capital region’s western suburbs this summer? Prepare for more hassle and longer travel times due to track work.
Commuters and tourists in Espoo and points west should brace for slower, more complex travel arrangements for most of this summer.
No local trains are running west of Leppävaara for more than a month beginning on Monday 22 June, due to track work.
Some trains will start rolling again on 27 July, but A trains will remain offline until 10 August. No trains will stop at the Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä stations during that period.
The disruptions will also affect commuter rail services from Leppävaara towards Kauklahti, Kirkkonummi and Siuntio. E, U, L and Y trains are not running.
Trains will be replaced by buses, but you may have to switch between several forms of transport – and it will take longer to reach your destination.
In addition, there will be shorter interruptions in train services on weekends next autumn, with disruptions of 1-2 days in September and October. Meanwhile, the Tuomarila station is completely shut until early October.
The work on the Coastal Line is related to the Espoo Rail Line project, which is expected to continue until 2029. There were similar disruptions last summer.
You can check the schedules and routes for the replacement buses via HSL’s Journey Planner.
Unscheduled disruptions as well on Monday
Meanwhile there have been unscheduled disruptions to VR train services on Monday.
The state railway firm said that several local and long-distance train services were delayed, while some commuter trains have also been cancelled, besides those announced in advance.
VR reports disruptions to traffic between Helsinki and Riihimäki due to a track system failure. That is expected to trigger delays of 30–70 minutes on the route until at least 3pm.
According to Fintraffic, a track system failure and ongoing track work are also causing significant delays in rail traffic between Järvenpää and the Jokela station in Tuusula.
