The president USR, Dominic Fritzannounces that he will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) the decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice regarding the fact that he was in a conflict of interest, which has the effect of prohibiting his candidacy for any elected position until the year 2030 inclusive.
“The unjust sentence did not come out of the blue. It came after I personally and the entire USR party ended up on the list of enemies of Justice drawn up by the CSM itself,” says Fritz.
The mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, who is also president of the USR, claims that the ECHR could order the Romanian state to review the sanction in his case.
It is about the sentence by which the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) upheld the decision of the Timișoara Court of Appeal, by which mayor Fritz was found to be in conflict of interest.
Asked, on the evening of June 23, 2026, on Euronews Romania, about the implications of the sentence of the High Court of Cassation and Justice in his case, Dominic Fritz recalled that he will appeal the decision to the ECHR and that he hopes to win the case.
“The Romanian state can be summoned to review the sanction, for example. That is, it is not excluded at all. An ECHR decision, of course, can be a reason for a review of a decision”, explained Dominic Fritz.
He stated that the decision of the ÎCCJ in his case is an “extremely serious” one, but that it is “disproportionate” and he will not be intimidated.
“It is an extremely serious decision, an extremely serious and completely disproportionate sanction. That is precisely why I cannot be intimidated by it, because I received a mandate from the people of Timisoara, which I must carry out to the end. I also received a mandate from my party colleagues. This is precisely why I also asked for the reconfirmation of my colleagues in the National Office, where I received it unanimously. I will do the same in the Political Committee, as well as in the USR Congress in the fall”, declared Domnic Fritz.
He also stated that he felt a wave of solidarity in society.
“I think the world sees that things are disproportionate, if not actually abusive. The world sees that ANI, and the president also said it, obviously turns a blind eye to many serious parts in order to rummage through commas and hook you to absolutely ridiculous things. This is also the reason why I will go to the ECtHR”, added Dominic Fritz
The ICCJ upheld the decision of the Timișoara Court of Appeal by which the mayor of the municipality, Dominic Fritz, was found to be in conflict of interest.
