Occupied El Aaiun, June 27, 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed El Bachir Boutenguiza is suffering from a serious deterioration in his health condition, according to the League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons.
According to the organization, citing information provided by the prisoner’s family, Mohamed El Bachir Boutenguiza recently suffered severe bleeding caused by hemorrhoids, resulting in significant blood loss. He was taken to the prison clinic, where the attending physician determined that his condition required immediate transfer to a hospital for urgent medical examinations and treatment. However, the director of Kenitra Central Prison refused to authorize his transfer outside the prison, in what the organization described as a blatant denial of his right to medical care.
The same source indicated that the prisoner is now bedridden, unable to move, and suffering from extreme fatigue, loss of balance, and severe physical weakness.
It is worth noting that the Sahrawi civilian prisoner has suffered from hemorrhoids for several years. Throughout this period, he has repeatedly requested permission from the prison administration to receive treatment at a hospital. According to the organization, these requests have consistently been denied, with prison authorities limiting his treatment to painkillers, which have reportedly had adverse effects on his digestive system.
In light of this serious situation, the League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners has appealed to all people of conscience, international organizations and human rights bodies, to intervene urgently to save the Sahrawi civilian prisoner and ensure that his critical health condition is treated in a humane and appropriate manner.
