The grounds of Borda Shoemaker this morning they welcomed the arrival of three hundred sheep from theair French, as part of a project promoted by the municipality ofEscaldes-Engordany to recover transhumance to the Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror.
The initiative, which is launched for the first time this summer, wants to reintroduce one traditional livestock practice and contribute to a more sustainable management of pastures within this declared space World Heritage for the unesco.
Consul General, Rose Gilihas emphasized that the project will make it possible to “keep the undergrowth clean” and, at the same time, recover an activity historically linked to the valley. For her part, the councilor of environment i Madriu Valley, Magda Mataexplained that the commune is in contact with the rest of the corporations with territory in the valley so that the herd can graze there.
The sheep, guided by a shepherd and three dogs, will travel through different sectors of the valley, such as ramio, Conangle Peguera, Prat PrimertheBlue Pond and the Braibal coughbefore starting the descent towards the flatwhere they are expected to arrive in the first week of September.
To ensure proper management of the pastures, the sheep flock will not share space with cows or horses and will always be the last to occupy each of the planned sectors.
