Bring Leo XIV’s commitment to peace to the dioceses and regions of origin, so that a choral appeal is given shape that strengthens the common commitment on this front. This is the task that the participants in the extraordinary consistory set themselves on the occasion of the third session of work, which took place this morning on the theme “Building for good: the construction sites of our time”.
«What are the fractures in your contexts today that make it more difficult to build the common good?» or “What expectations and what questions emerge from the people and peoples that the Church is called to listen to and that perhaps we do not listen to enough?” or “What supports, guidelines or initiatives from the local Churches and the universal Church could most effectively help the commitment to building the common good?”. These are the questions the cardinals discussed on the day which opened with the mass presided over by Cardinal Dean Giovanni Battista Re in St. Peter’s Basilica and with the introduction into the Chamber entrusted to the South African Cardinal Stephen Brislin.
The second Session, yesterday afternoon, was moderated by Cardinal Pablo Virgilio Siongco David, bishop of Kalookan. In opening the proceedings, the Philippine cardinal recalled the painful situation in Venezuela and the many victims of the earthquake of the last few hours. Afterwards, Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, gave the introductory report of the Session, dedicated to the theme “The culture of power and the civilization of love”, for an in-depth reflection on chapter V of the encyclical Magnificent humanity.
