China-Bangladesh Relations: Bangladesh is buying Chinese warplanes, there may be an agreement in the meeting with Xi Jinping, Pakistan has been using it for a long time

New Delhi: Bangladesh is eager to buy warplanes from China. Dhaka wants to buy the same fighter jet from China that Pakistan used against India during ‘Operation Sindoor’. The plan is to buy not one or two, but 24 J-10CE fighters. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman can clear the matter during his visit to China. (Bangladesh Buying Chinese Fighter Jets)

Tarek is going to visit China. He will meet with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang on June 25. He will meet with President Xi Jinping on June 26. There are reports that the purchase of warplanes will be finalised. Experts say this could lead to a two-pronged air battle situation in front of India. (China-Bangladesh Relations)

According to the news received so far, Bangladesh wants to complete the contract to buy the warplanes within the month of August this year. In addition to trade, infrastructure, investment, Bangladesh also wants to strengthen bilateral relations with China in the field of defense. India is also looking at this agreement between China and Bangladesh.

The J-10CE fighter jet that Bangladesh is looking to buy from China is the exportable version of the latest J-10C fighter jet. If the agreement is signed, Bangladesh will be the second country after Pakistan to use the Chinese fighter jet. Each fighter jet costs 40 million dollars, which is about 378 crore rupees in Indian currency.

As important as this move is for the modernization of the Bangladesh Air Force, this decision is also very significant for the geopolitics of South Asia. The power equation in the Bay of Bengal is expected to undergo a major change. Therefore, India is also keeping an eye on the terms and conditions of the agreement between the two countries.

A new government has been formed in Bangladesh over the instability. Since then, they have been eager to re-open the World War II-era Lalmonirhat Air Force Base. The distance of the air force base from the Indian border is 12015 km. It is located not far from the Siliguri Corridor. It has been heard for several days that China may help in re-opening the air force base. There are also reports that new construction, hangars may be built there.

It is in this context that Bangladesh’s purchase of warplanes from China has become a topic of discussion at the moment. Incidentally the Pakistan Air Force also operates 36 J-10CE fighters. Indonesia has announced that it will buy 42 J-10 fighter jets. Until now they were dependent on Russia and America to buy defense equipment. China celebrated the 10th anniversary of the J-10 fighter jet in March this year.
