Patients are looking for a parking place to leave their vehicles to walk to the doctor’s office or the pharmacy or to the business they want to do business with on Crete Street in Nicosia.
Others look anxiously to find an alternative road that will lead them to their destination while listening to the horns or the honks of other drivers who do not have time to wait for where the driver in front will decide to move.
And of course, the few business owners are watching the whole situation with concern and wondering if they will last until the completion of the projects on Kritis and Kypranoros streets, which are on the left of Digeni Akrita avenue immediately after the Lycabettus Police in the direction of Pallouriotissa.

Also, residents and shopkeepers of Androkleous Street, which is located in the next lane from Kypranoros, awkwardly observe their street where, in addition to the vehicles that were plying daily until yesterday, the vehicles that used the streets that were closed for the time being for the execution of road and other reconstruction works were also added.
Because Kritis Street is located near the Lycabettus police station, where fixed cameras are also in operation, all the passers-by are worried and don’t have time to pass and, apart from the inconvenience, they also collect an extra charge.
Office and medical staff are taking to the street to help customers find a place to park for a few minutes in order to run errands.
One blames one thing, another the other, and a third questions whether the project will be completed on time, obviously having an understanding of what happened to other similar projects.
With those we spoke to, they think that the projects will upgrade the area and obviously there was no other solution, but it is revealed once again how even the small projects in the center of the capital cause so much inconvenience and increase the traffic chaos. An excavator feverishly removes the subsoil to a depth of about one meter, apparently with the intention of preparing the ground to accept the pipes and wires of various services.
A woman in a private parking lot shouts that her exit is blocked and she can’t get out. Trucks transport materials and workers carry out the mission assigned to them.
The Municipality of Nicosia had announced the start of construction works on Kritis Street, from its junction with Digeni Akrita Avenue to its junction with Stassandrou Street, and on Filippiados Street, as part of the project “Suitable construction of various streets in Nicosia – Contract 23 City Center”.
The works being carried out, which are scheduled to last two months, include:
- Anti-flood projects with the construction of a rainwater drainage system.
- Construction of single sidewalks based on modern accessibility requirements.
- Reconstruction of the road surface.
- Configuration of new traffic regulations and improvement of road markings.
- Configuration of fake parking spaces.
- Upgrading the infrastructure of Public Utility Services.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution and comply with temporary road markings and traffic diversions as indicated on the attached map. It is emphasized that during the execution period of the above works, temporary traffic lights will operate at the junction of Androkleous and Stassandrou streets.
According to the Municipality, the project is implemented within the framework of the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism of the European Union (NextGenerationEU).
