We expect the Administrative Board to withdraw the proposal for the re-election of Veselin Drljević to the Radio and Television Council of Montenegro (RTCG), as well as for the Parliament of Montenegro to immediately initiate proceedings for the dismissal of the other members of the Council covered by the final judgment, Jovana Vuković, a member of the Presidency of the European Union Women’s Forum, announced today.
“We welcome the final verdict against the members of the RTCG Council for abuse of official position during the illegal re-election of the general director. This decision is an important proof that, despite the many weaknesses of the system, Montenegro is still progressing towards achieving the rule of law. After such a verdict, there is no room for appeals to personal conscience. We remind you that Veselin Drljević publicly announced in front of the Administrative Board that, if the verdict is upheld, he ‘will not need anyone to warn him to resign’ and that he will ‘know what he has to do’ is to do’. The verdict is now final and we expect Drljević to fulfill what he himself promised to the citizens of Montenegro,” said Vuković in a statement.
She added that if this does not happen, the responsibility falls on the institutions.
“We expect the Administrative Board to withdraw the proposal for the re-election of Veselin Drljević to the RTCG Council, as well as for the Parliament of Montenegro to immediately initiate proceedings for the dismissal of other members of the Council covered by the final judgment. Final court decisions must have political and institutional consequences. Political responsibility must also be borne by those who elected them to these positions,” said Vuković.
Today, the High Court in Podgorica confirmed the verdict of the Basic Court of Podgorica, by which the former president of the RTCG Council Veselin Drljević and the then members Filip Lazović, Naod Zorić and Amina Murić were sentenced to suspended prison terms of seven months, due to abuse of position during the illegal re-election of Boris Raonic as General Director of the Public Service in 2023, Television Vijesti was told from the High Court.
Thus, the judgment of the Basic Court from September last year became final, and the appeals of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office and the defense of the defendants were rejected as unfounded, Television News was told from the High Court, which issued this verdict on June 15.
