AUR would double its electoral score in case of early elections. Analyst:

There has been a political and governmental crisis in Romania for almost two months since the Bolojan Government remained interim and no option was found to have a fully functional Executive. After the Vestea Government failed in Parliament, President Nicușor Dan still has a possibility to appoint a premierand in case it also fails to find the necessary votes, early elections can be triggered.

Political analyst Răzvan Pantelimon, PhD university lecturer at the Faculty of History and Political Sciences of “Ovidius” University in Constanța, pointed out, in an analysis for Ziare.com, that a single party would benefit from such a scenario: GOLD.

According to him, the formation is in a favorable moment from the electoral point of view and could achieve a significantly better result than the one recorded in the previous parliamentary elections.

AUR, the main beneficiary of an early vote

Răzvan Pantelimon states that AUR is in a period of political and electoral growth, which would give it a considerable advantage in the event of early elections.

“AUR, at this moment, is the only party that has something to gain from the idea of early elections, because they are on the wave, they are growing and, I think, at least, they would double their electoral score. And then, these early elections would be very convenient for them, while other parties would have to lose.

Now, out of possible early elections, which I don’t think can happen, but if it did happen, GOLD would have the most to gain. That’s why, in the end, this fall, the rejection of the future government and possible early elections will be favorable to AUR”, Răzvan Pantelimon told Ziare.com.

“It does not automatically mean that a second rejection brings early elections”

The professor mentions that such an outcome is not automatic, as the constitutional provisions leave an important margin of decision to the president.

“At this moment, AUR has an even greater capacity for negotiation because the rejection of a second investment proposal in Parliament opens up the possibility of early elections.

Now, finally, the Constitution here is quite ambiguous, in the sense that the president can dissolve the Parliament, it is not an obligation to dissolve. So, it does not mean that a second rejection automatically brings early elections, but it opens up the possibility, it is up to the president whether or not to dissolve the Parliament”, stated Răzvan Pantelimon for Ziare.com.
