Germany beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in a dramatic match at the Toronto Stadium to confirm their place in the knockout stages of the World Cup. In the very last moment of the match, the substitute forward Deniz Undav scored two goals to give the team a great victory.
Germany was aggressive from the start of the match. In the 10th minute, Josua Kimmich’s cross was brilliantly blocked by Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahya Fofana. In the 18th minute, Jamal Musiala’s shot missed the target, Germany’s wait for a goal increased.
In the 21st minute, Germany burst into jubilation when the ball went into the net from a corner. However, the goal was canceled by the referee as Alexander Pavlovich fouled the goalkeeper.
Despite creating pressure, Germany fell behind in the 30th minute. After Amad Diallo’s shot was blocked by defender Brown, captain Frank Casey got the rebound and scored into an empty net.
The four-time world champions then became desperate to score. Havertz sent the ball into the net but it was also ruled out due to a foul. As a result, Germany went into the break trailing at the end of the first half.
Deniz Undav came on as a substitute in the second half and changed the pace of the match. In the 68th minute, he equalized with a great volley from Nadiem Amiri’s cross.
Later in the match, both teams wasted multiple opportunities. In the 88th minute, the tension in the match reached its peak when Ivory Coast missed a goal.
Undav struck again in the 94th minute of added time. He headed the ball into the net from Felix Enmacher’s pass and into the net, securing a 2-1 win for Germany.
Germany won the match with two goals from Undav and made it to the knockout stage from the top of ‘E’ group. On the other hand, Ivory Coast is in second place with three points.
